Overview

The Little Updater Tool enables a faster and consistent sequential updating of a batch of controllers, including parameters and firmware. It supports both full parameter file updates and selective updates of specified parameters.
A configuration file provided by ASI is required to use this tool.

To get started, contact your ASI Account Manager for more information about the tool and to discuss how it can be tailored to your application needs.

Requirements

You will need:

  1. A harness that can both power the controller, and an FTDI USB-TTL or PCAN-USB to allow TTL or CAN access to talk to the controller.
  2. A powersupply to power the controller.
  3. A Windows computer to operate the software.
  4. The little updater software
  5. Your configuration package for your application.

Typical update job

  1. Install the Little updater software.
  2. Extract the keyed zip file we create with your approved firmware and parameters, and any specific checks/writes. Note: Files are keyed and can only be created by ASI so they cannot be accidentally changed, thus causing your production team to unwittingly load the wrong calibration to 300 controllers...Oops!
  3. Open Little updater tool.
  4. Select "choose configuration file" from File menu.
  5. Press begin-update sequence.
  6. Now connect controller to power, TTL cable to the display port. And lastly, connect the USB cable to the computer.
  7. The app detects the USB cable, begins the update process:
    1. Checks the controller is the expected controller.
    2. Maybe it unlocks your specified write lock on the controller.
    3. Updates firmware.
    4. Asks you to power-cycle the controller when firmware is done updating.
    5. Makes the custom change that loading just a parameter file can't do.
    6. Loads your parameter file.
    7. Marks the controller as updated.
    8. Saves to flash.
  8. Update job is now complete. The app now asks you to disconnect this controller from the USB cable and power and connect the next controller to be updated like the above.
    1. Note: Do not unplug the USB cable when disconnecting the controller. Leave it plugged in, just disconnect and connect the next controller to your display port plug with the key-loop and TTL port access.
  9. Jumps back to the start of the update process. The operator just needs to follow the instructions on screen.
