Cutout Brake
Introduction
When operating locally, a motor cutout can be enabled to prevent the motor from engaging. This page provides an overview of the available inputs and instructions for configuring the corresponding parameters.
Wiring
A single-throw switch is typically used as the input source and can be connected to Cruise/Digital Input 1, PFS/Digital Input 2, Brake 1, or Brake 2.
When connecting to a digital input, note that these inputs are internally pulled up, so the switch should be wired between GND and the selected digital input.
If connecting to an analog brake input, ensure that the input is configured with a pull-up resistor.
Configuration
-
Select the
Cutoff brake sensor source(address 248) -
Enable the brake and verify
ebike flags bit 1Cutout is active
Dual cutoff sources
In firmware 6.025 and higher, you can configure a second cutoff input alongside the first. If either cutoff source is active, the controller cuts torque. Both cutoff sources must be idle before the controller provides torque again.
- Set the
Secondary Cutoff brake sensor source(address 2005) to the second input. It has the same options as theCutoff brake sensor source. - Enable
Features4bit 12 Dual cutoff sources (address 1974).
Shared regen and cutoff input
In firmware 6.024 and higher, a single input can act as either a cutoff or a regen brake, depending on vehicle speed. When the input is active:
- Above the
Vehicle Speed threshold for Regen and Cutoff, the controller applies regen braking. -
Below this threshold, the controller treats the input as an active cutoff.
-
Configure regen braking as described in Regen, using an analog input that can also be used as a cutoff source: set
Regen brake sourceto Brake1 or Brake2, and enableFeaturesbit 4 Analog braking enable. - Set the
Cutoff brake sensor source(address 248) to the same input. - Enable
Features4bit 4 Regen and Cutoff on single source. - Set the
Vehicle Speed threshold for Regen and Cutoff(address 1984) to the speed at which the input switches between cutoff and regen behaviour.
